Hi everyone,

I know this is an often asked question but I still did not get a satisfying answer:
I know the aspect ratio is a value for mesh quality (depending on the problem different values might be recommended also depending on boundary conditions, etc.). It is often written it might affect the convergence of the system. My question is: why? Is there an explanation from an equation point of view for example?

I mean I get why non-orthogonality or skewness (as mesh quality indicators) affect the results considering the discretization process but I don't get what the influence of the aspect ratio (and also the smootheness) has on that process or another during solving.

Can anyone give an explanation or maybe a literature recommendation?

Thanks a lot in advance.
