Hydrodinamic modelling of open flow

Hi... These are my first steps in CFD, so please be patient with me. IŽd like to know if anybody can give me some reference (a book or a paper), about the evolution of hydrodinamic modelling of rivers and estuaries (multiphase). The idea is to compile those models to write a text from the empirical to the state-of-the-art models. Thank you very much... Jorge Isidoro |

You might contact Dr. Bill Waldrop (WRWaldrop@aol.com). He was active in this type of modeling at the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) before he formed his own company.
The TVA is I think the largest utility in the US and one of the larger in the world. With several hundred miles of rivers and lakes to manage, their model capability is extensive. Good luck! |

I suggest the following papers on hydrodynamic modeling:
1) Hinwood, J & I. Wallis. "Classification of Models of Tidal Waters." Journal of the Hydraulic Division., ASCE, Vol 101, No. HY10,pp1315-1331. Oct 1975. 2) Hinwood, J & I. Wallis. "Review of Models of of Tidal Waters." Journal of the Hydraulic Division., ASCE, Vol 101, No. HY10,pp1405-1421. Nov 1975. 3) Reid, R.O. & B.R. Bodine. "Numerical Model for Storm Surges in Galveston Bay." Journal, Waterways and Harbors Division, ASCE, Vol 94, No. WW1, Feb 1968. As you can see from this list, the most recent publication is 1975. There have been substantial improvements since then, including governing equations used, numerical methods, and gridding techniques. Popular commercial models in the US today are: MIKE 21, RMA-2, & ADCRIC. Also, the above publications focus on 2-D depth-averaged equations. Hope this gives you a head start; there is a lot out there about this subject; I gave you just a few of the papers. Steven Jachec |
