Hi! I need a little help with the design. I designed a nozzle with a central starting point of the characteristic lines, so i know how to compute Prandtl-Meyer angle, Mach angle and flow angle Thetha, but i have difficulties with the design of the gradual expansion nozzle- where the characteristic lines at the expansion section are divided from theta0 to thetaMax, like on this picture:

I can draw the first characteristic line, that starts from the inlet radius(in this case from point r=1) , but i don't know how to continue.

Thanks for the replies, have a nice day

Hello FMDenaro!

Thanks for your reply and s orry for my indistinctive question. So, my main question is, how can i determine the length of the expansion section (in ellipse on the picture), what is the distance between the characteristic lines?

Can someone tell me how we can design the expansion section ? I know how to do a minimum length nozzle by the method of characteristics. But how to design from that a gradual expansion nozzle (as depicted in the figure) is not clear for me. Is there any text book explaining this in detail ?

Do you know how the minimum length nozzle in the figure above was converted to a gradual expansion nozzle ?
