GMSH 4.5.2: Prism Layer creation (3D boundary layer on 2D face))
Hello,
with 2D geometrie I can create an wonderfull mesh with prism layer in gmsh. But with 3D geometrie I do not have any succses to create an prism layer (with boundary layer field) on an surface of an volume body. The api documentation tell me. Quote:

Anyone do have information when it is planed to enable the prism layer generation again? There are equal meshing tools with the support of prism layer generation? Can I solve the problem in gmsh with an work around (e.g. subvolume generation near the surface)? Thanks, Thomas |
hi thomas,
the feature was not functional. Quote:
Sadly, there are not much unstructured meshing tools with boundary layer generation. nevertheless, you can download the versions between 2.13.0 to 2.14.x try using the non functional feature. you could use salome/netgen. This works most of the times. You could also try to use engrid, which is not up to date;but someone posted some minor fixed and instructions to compile it on ubuntu 18.04 on one of the several forks. dont know which one, but you can find it on github. kind regards, ferdifuchs |
This also bothers me for a long time. An easy way to create BL prism/hex would make GMSH a much greater tool.

Thanks for the answers.
@FerdiFuchs I played first with Salome and after that with Gmsh a while. Gmsh is a simple tool with all (expect prism layer) feature where needed to generate nice meshes. "simple" and focused to the main task makes it an very create tool, but the missing ... :( Ok, I think I should switch back to Salome for CFD meshes with prism layers. One change for Salome ... |
