CFD-Code FloWorks

Hi,

does someone has experience with the CFD-module of the CAD-System SolidWorks. I'm interested in physical models, possible applications and overall performance compared with the big codes like Fluent, CFX, StarCD ...

Re: CFD-Code FloWorks

Hi Tim.

I'm actually testing and benchmarking FLOWORKS99, and FLOWORKS2000 soon, with experimental datas.

I'm doing this works for a company which whishes to use it in SOLIDWORKS2000.

************************************************** ********

I can say that FLOWORKS99 deals quite good with incompressible, compressible and mixed flows, while it is simple to use.

One of course must use FLOWORKS99 in an appropriate manner in order to obtain good calculation results.

If u want more detailed infos, I'm here.

Anis .

Anis,

could you tell a little bit of the code's background ? (Finite volume approach ?, which turbulence models implemented ?, structured or unstructured meshes ? ....) Can you do comparisions to popular CFD-codes ?

Thanks,

Tim

Details ofr Tim ...

Hi Tim,

Finite Volume Method;K-epsilon turbulence model.

Automatic structured mesh generation with cubic control volumes, and local refinement.

Comparison with popular CFD code : FLUENT/UNS.

The main difference is the MESHING. With FLOWORKS99, u cannot generate your own meshing with the amount of cells YOU need, and you cannot visualise it neither to check the accuracy of the autogenerated meshing.

This is a bit frustrating for a CFD engineer.

Meanwhile, FLOWORKS99 does actually show good results in the project I'm working on. The calculations cost a couple of hours. The time cost is to be decreased with the FLOWORKS2000 release as the accuracy is to be enhanced for the same CPU calculation time.

Well, the software is simple to use (u don't have to manage numerical schemes or algorithms). One has to trust the software.

And my job is to benchmark it with experimentation.

It runs not so bad actually, FOR THE PROJECT I'M WORKING ON.

More details ?

Don't hesitate.

Anis .

Hi Tim,

I´m pleased to hear about your interest in FloWorks. Could you give me some more details about the problems you want to solve? Interested in testing the code? Let me know.

Hajo

Re: CFD-Code FloWorks

Hi,

We want to solve the flow in a rotating vessel including the free surface behaviour. Are there other turbulence models implemented than standard k-eps model ? Is it possible to consider two-phase flow ?

Cheers,

Tim
