[ICEM] Wing Tip Quality

3 Attachment(s)
Hi there, I have been working on a structured mesh of an ONERA M6 wing and I found that the quality of the mesh that extends from the wing tip to the far side region is really poor and I can't seem to figure out a way around this so some advice on this would be great.

Hello Justin,

It is hard to tell from the photos, but are those elements appearing INSIDE of the airfoil, or is it on the suction side? If it is the former, you might have just forgotten to delete the inner block.

If not, check all of your associations are where you intended them to be.

Thank you so much for your reply Kira, those elements are not anywhere within the geometry of the wing but rather outside of the wing's geometry, starting from the wing tip's cross section and it stretches out to the far field side of the flow field. I tried deleting the very thin block in the region and redid my associations but it only made it worse because the mesh from the wing now includes that outer region as you can see in one of the pictures I've sent. I've also attached more pictures, hopefully that sort of gives you a bigger picture of where these elements are.

Hello Justin,

Thank you for those additional images, it is much clearer.

This is actually a common issue when meshing airfoils and it just has to do with the blocking strategy used.

If you look at the images posted by Amir here:https://www.researchgate.net/post/Ho...kewness_Issues , he describes with images the problem and a good blocking approach to take.

And yes, don't forget to do the Link Edge.

Hope this helps.

Alright I'll check that link out and see what I can do from here. Thank you so much and I sincerely appreciate your help a lot Kira.
