Vehicle Door closing simulation in StarCCM+ using overset method

1 Attachment(s)
Hello All,

This query is regarding overset mesh which is being used to simulate full vehicle Door closing phenomena in order to capture the peak cabin pressure.

Recently, I had tried a case where only the outer panel of the door (representative fig shown in attachment->thickness of 0.5mm) was considered inside overset region. It ran completely, but when I replaced it with the actual door (keeping the rest of the parameters constant), the solution file came out with the following error:

"Error in metrics computation. The mesh may have non-positive volume cells This may be due to an invalid imported mesh or to errors initializing an interface."

Any leads on how to resolve the following error would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Bitty,

You may find the following points to be useful:
1) Make sure to keep at least 3 cells of overset mesh on 1 cell of background mesh and you should maintain this throughout the path in which overset mesh is travelling.
2) Try to use curve control to keep the feature curve of moving part intact.

Hope this helps in solving the issue you are facing
