modifying commercial codes
 

Hello all you CFD folks. I was wondering to what extent commercial CFD codes can be modified. More specifically, is it possible to modify the turbulence models in any commercial codes? For example, if I wanted to upgrade the standard k-epsilon model to, say, a nonlinear version, would this be at all possible? I am aware that in some codes (eg Fluent) the user can make some modifications, but I'm not sure if this only refers to changing the constants. Does anybody out there have any experience in this matter? All thoughts are welcome.

Most general purpose CFD codes allow modifications you mention, some to greater extents than others. From a commercial point of view, supporting academic licenses is a sod as users modify more and more things. Academic licenses are often viewed as non-profitable (especially considering the amount of support academic users (mostly lecturers and supervisors) require :)
