I want to check my code for the computation of buoyancy convection for incompressible fluid with Boussinesq approximation in laminar regime. would you please suggest me a reference?

Thanks in advance.

I think that, natural convection in the cavity is very classical one, so that it could be used to verify or check new code.

If you agree, I am sure that following papers would be helpful to you.

1. "Laminar free convection in a vertical slot", J.W.Elder, J. Fluid Mech., vol. 23, pp.77-98, 1965

2. "Laminar and turbulent natural convection in an enclosed cavity", N.C.Markatos & K.A. Pericleous, Int. J. Heat & Mass Transfer, Vol. 27, pp.755-772, 1984

You can compare Nusselt number, streamfunction, local maximum velocity and so on.

Sincerely, Jinwook

Hi:

If you are looking for a challenging check try Raleigh-Bernard problem.

There is another paper on natural convection in cavities:

Chenoweth, DR, and Paolucci, S, Natural convection in an enclosed vertical air layer with large horizontal temperature differences, Journal of Fluid Mechanics, Vol. 169, pp. 173-210, 1986.

As you can see it deals with large temperature differences, but there is also some comparisons to the Boussinesq equations. It is a numerical study.

regards, chidu...

There is another reference:

@ARTICLE(dev1983a, AUTHOR = " G. De Vahl Davis", TITLE = " Natural convection of air in a square cavity : a comparaison exercise", PAGES = " 227--248", JOURNAL = IJNMF, YEAR = 1983, VOLUME = 3)

@string{IJNMF = "International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids"}
