CFD Problem: volumetric compressor

Dear Sirs, I would like to ask you a technical question about a CFD problem. I have a volumetric compressor with this features: - two rotating blades who defines a variable volume mesh - leackage between blade and housing

Do you know if it is possible to solve this problem (2D problem) with any software? I know that the small number of volumetric compressor published in the literature is mainly due to the complexity of this problem: - the magnitude of compressor dimensions varies from several centimetres for the compression chamber to few micrometers for the clearances - variable volume mesh

Can you send me any information?

Yours sincerely

Re: CFD Problem: volumetric compressor

Dear gabriele

As a matter of fact volumetrics compressor are actually hard to model.

Some cfd commercial packages have the theorical capactity to model some kind of compressor. I know tree of them which may do the job and you will find more information on the editors web site :

CFD ACE form CFDRC STAR CD from computational dynamics FLUENT V4 from fluent inc.

Tip clearance arise others problems (high cell ratio at first) and, in my point of view, should be studied a part form the whole compressor.

I hope this could help you a little

Best regards

Alain
