I am trying to solve the free-suface problem. Interface-Capturing method and SIMPLE method, I used. for free-surf. , I added gravitational forcing term in my code. in O-H type, especially in symmetry plane, checkerboard problem appeared. I think gravitational forcing term makes that problem. Is there anyone who experience such case ? and give any comment ?

How is your gravititional force being handled? consevative or non-conservative form?

ie. rho*g [discontinuous at interface ] or just g? maybe try some different kinds of smoothing of rho for your gravitational term and see what happens?

If your density ratios are high your dealing with trouble.

Comments.. I'm not a fan of collocated SIMPLE methods

so I would suggest if you have trouble with

checkerboard problems then try the problem

with a staggered grid. Either that or

improve upon the Rhi-Chow algorithm for

discontinuous

terms...
