hi!! how are you people in here ?

i need help..

here is the problem :

I am designing performance parts for cars, mainly street cars for now..that are going to be used for racing

And i need to make aerodynamic testing on the parts..

So i have been looking for a kind of wind tunnel that i could get on the internet..but never found any!

SO i need your help to tell me what exactly do i need, and where could i get it for free ??

I am currently working with 3d models inside a 3d modelling software.. ( 3DMAX4 wich is what i do for a living )

i need to be able to take thoose models, transport them into a program and make a simulation of aerodynamics on the objects.. and then i need to be able to see at least pressure points and or fluid paths around the objects..so i can determine the best shape for the spoilers and ground effects

Thank you!!

PLEASE email me if you have any potential solution for me!!

and put CFD in the title

THANKS! again!

JIN

I don't think you can find any free aerodynamic/fluid dynamic simulation programs, softwares or packages on the internet that will do what you want as you have stated in your message.

You really need a commercial CFD package such as Fluent. You can use this software for free if you're a student and have access to Silicon Graphics machine. Otherwise, you'll have to write your own CFD software to do it which would take you a few agonizing years to do it!!!

As for your 3d models, I hope you can save them in IGES format so that you can "mesh" them in a meshing program that usually comes with the CFD package.

I hope I helped you out and Go with the Flow, -Edward

Tahnk you Edward..

I have been looking for weeks now, and still haven't found anything that could be easily used ..

So i tink i will have to resolve to commercially avaible software pacakges

thanks again ..

Jean,

I have a company which does CFD analysis, my rates are reasonable and if you would like me to take a look at your problem and give you a quotation, please email me back.

To: Greg and Jean; I don't think Jean needs your services for what he wants to do. He could get away with the use of simple aerodynamic calculations that are usually taught to sophomore-junior undergraduate aerospace engineering students. He just needs to be creative in his thinking. CFD simulations take time to do and I usually start aerodynamic problems using known and SIMPLE and QUICK methods before trying any simulations, even in case of unusual problems. It will be even easier for Jean if he had access to a wind-tunnel facility because his problem is easier to do in a wind tunnel test. Unfortunately, life isn't fair! Especially for cool-aero-dudes like us. Go with the flow, Edward

Edward,

A wind tunnel test takes someone to create the part. Which is expensive. He already has the 3d model of the part a CFD analysis is the way to go on this problem. I think anyone who has down wind tunnel testing knows that this is not always a cheap or fast proposition if the shape is difficult.

To Greg; With regard to wind-tunnel tests, you can forget about concerns about costs in doing one. This is usually the case if you're an aerospace engineering student in a university with a medium-level low subsonic wind tunnel facility. Of course, it is still subject to approval by the appropriate persons involved. I have done a lot of wind tunnel testing, in my case, the use of the wind tunnel facility was free and I had complete manufacturing support. Unfortunately, test-section, instrumentation, programming, electronics, etc... was entirely up to me! It may not have cost me financially, but I did pay for it BIGTIME! Go with the flow, Edward
