Dear all,

I am evaluating the possibility of purchasing FLOVENT software for ventilation flow type simulations and would greatly appreciate any experiences that actual code users could share with me (mesh generation, solution accuracy/validation, post-proc., comparison to airpak, etc.) Thanks in advance. --alex.

Alex, firstly I'd like to point out that I'm not from any of the main comercial CFD companies. Flow vent from my experience is very good at quickly setting up problems, with predefined gui's for the setting up of different forms of diffusers and extractors etc (all of which are very important when wanting to model the ventilation flow fields). However where flow vent falls down is in the simplistic model generation stage. Now this may not be a problem if the geometries you want to generate are simple, however the more complex the geometry the harder it is for you to build it in Flowvent. Flow vent I believe uses a cartesian grid, so for example if you are modelling a curved suface then the grid at the surface would be stepped. Other comercial codes use body fitted grids, which mor eaccurately match the face of the surface. What it really depends upon is the complexity of your application. I work for a consultancy company which uses one of the main comercial codes, if you are interested in discussing your problem, then you can contact me at funster7@hotmail.com Good Luck Dave
