Fortran90 is supposed to be robust language,if you are interested in developing an inhouse code.

I wrote codes for solving a lid driven cavity flow in both C++ and Fortran on Linux. The Fortran version runs about 30% faster. I plan to rewrite the C++ code using pointers, and see, if there will be any change.

This is a highly emotive question to ask a load of cfd hackers, old and young. Try looking through a recent, long thread started by someone calling themelves "Ringo". (Search in the main discussion forum for Ringo and that thread is listed first.)
You'll find all the usual arguments in there represented with various levels of rigour and emotion (but rarely both together). And the whole thread is summed up nicely by Bert Laney's closing comments. Take some time out, read the whole thread, you'll learn (I did). |

Yep, calculations via fortran, file handling, scripts and GUI via C, C++ or perl.
