MPhil or Phd???

Hi,

I want to hear your opinions - I have the chance to continue from an MPhil to a Phd. Can i get a good job with an MPhil or will i always be second to a Phd. I just don't know whether it's worth the hassle to go on to a Phd if i can get a good job from an MPhil.

I'm interested to hear what anybody thinks!!!

Thanks John.

Re: MPhil or Phd???

John,

Doing a PhD shouldn't be "whether or not you can get a good job at the end of it". It is a hard three or four years and you must be interested in and passionate about the topic itself. If you view a PhD as extra "hassle" then I suggest you shouldn't do one, and stick with the MPhil.

With regards to employment after education, there are a plethora of factors to take into account, rather than simply PhD vs MPhil, but obviously someone with a PhD is likely to have greater knowledge of the area than someone with an MPhil. This does not necessarily mean, however, that you couldn't get a "good" job (again a personal criteria) with a good MPhil.

Best of luck.

Nick.
