Hi,

I am interested in finding out uses for CFD in the Environmental field like pollution, chemical leaks or anything else in the Environmental field that I am not aware of.

TRANSOFT has developped a strong CFD activity in the fields of environment - air quality and risk assessment for the past 10 years. Take a look at our website www.fluidyn.com

Hi Henry,

That was part of my PhD work; and still is now that I am in industry. My colleagues and I have looked at river and estuarine flows (with/without pollution, sedimentation issues, DOC and turbulence re fish), water quality (water treatment using ozone tanks, UV; transport and separation of solids in sewage) as well as air quality in plants (risks of asphyxiation for employees) and in the atmosphere (release of polutant from plants). In one application we have even automated the job so that data were read from measurement devices, then formatted into the right command file for the code to start the job automatically. Environmental engineering is a growing field of application, although not always "wealthy enough" (moneywise). But there's potential for CFD to help anser questions in that field. This is also the case of risk and safety (simulation of smoke, fire, radiation).

P.S. I am using CFX-5 for this work (www.cfx.aeat.com).
