Hope it helps

Rainald Lohner, Shayar Pirzadeh, and Jaime Peraire are some of the big names to look up in your literature search on the advancing front method. Some of the original papers outlining the algorithm appear in the International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, specifically S.H. Lo (1985) in two dimensions, and Lohner and P.C. Parikh (1988) in three dimensions. Peraire and co-workers did their initial work about the same time as well.

The basic concept is to start with an initial boundary discretization (or "initial front") and proceed to march into the computational domain, updating the front list as new cells are added. When the list of faces/edges on the front is reduced to zero, the mesh is complete.

Two advancing front mesh generators which I am aware of are FELISA and VGRIDns. VGRIDns does not come with source code, but in six years of using it I have found it quite powerful, easy to use, and reliable. It can create boundary layer tetrahedra for viscous flows as well.
