Is the boundary known or unknown? If it's known, I guess it's easier, otherwise, it's a big research area, you can find a lot of related papers.

Check our website www.mcube.fr there are several papers in the publication section dealing with ALE problems and giving references. It is also briefly explained how ALE works in in the M-Explicit code description section.

Valmor Fernandes de Almeida published one parper talking about domain deformation method. Don't remember which journal he published.

At hand, I have two papers related with free surface flow written by P.R. Schunk and R. R. Rao and .... The journals are
