CFD code for the forming of glass fibers

"In order to model a glass fibre forming process, we are looking for the right code. The process has large gradients in temperature and viscosity, and both convection and radiation heat transfer is present. The most challenging feature though is the large deformation of the free surface. The fibres are stretched from an instability on a melt surface into a long, thin fibre. We would be grateful for any ideas of which software could be able to simulate this process."

Thanks,

Renate

There are couple of steps needed to make fiber. Are you interested in deposition process or extracting process? I did some work on the former but not the other one. -Selina

Hi Selina,

What we are working with, is a different process of what you are mentioning. What I am looking for, is a code that can hanle the mentioned issues.

Hi, Is your process similar to optical fibre drawing, If it is, please take a look on the literature and search for the work of Steven H.-K. Lee. His PhD's work is on heat transfer study of optical fibre drawing and he is currently a professor in Hong Kong University of Sceince and Technology.

Best Regards, Adam
