what is Interface tracking?

hello
i am new to cfd and i am going to do a free surface project with Fluent by vof method,while i was reading documents i reached to "interface tracking methods",anybody knows what is "interface tracking" and which of the methods are related to vof?
i really appreciate if anybody introduces some www sites or pdf's that help me to understand interface tracking.

VOF is the pure convection of a scalar quantity (f) that indicates the volume fraction of a fluid in a cell. Interface tracking is a wider scope of methods usually VOF is considered "interface capturing" because you don't have an explicit representation of the interface. Interface is defined at a critical value of f.
