TURBULENT boundary layer over a cube
 

Hello,

I am very very new to CFD and am embarking upon a class project.

Basically I am simulating a turbulent boundary layer flow over a roughness element. I am using Fluent and will compare my results to some experiments. In this comparative experiments, this was scenario was carried out in an open channel with water.

To make things simple I am putting my 2-D roughness in pipe and imposing the "water surface" as a symmetry axis. Is is acceptable? Also, I want to use a Re number similar to what was used in the experiments (around 5,300) however this Re number is based on momentum thickness. How feasible is it for me in my case to evoke the condition of similarity? My Re number would be based on my pipe diameter....or should I do something else?
