I have a 2D car body in a tunnel and I am not sure if I have to add a boundary layer to the body and then mesh it. Should I add a boundary layer?
I was looking at the airfoil tutorial and they didn't even use a boundary layer. Can anyone tell me if I have to add a boundary layer? Thanks |

Adding BL depends on what you exactly plan to compute.

Well if you need to ask this question I would suggest that it doesn't matter.

if you have a 2D representation of a car, a boundary layer is the least of your problems right now. for a car its real effects will come when you start getting interference drag in three dimensions .
besides, you don't " add a boundary layer", you use mathematics that handle a boundary layer. you need to dig way deeper into what a boundary later is. |

For a flow visualization simple geometry with outer body condition is enough.
