ICEM Tetra

hi!

i am generating a mesh of a pump by using ICEM tetra. because of the rotational periodic geometry i only want to simulate a segment of the whole pump. now my problem is to generate the mesh at the interface between the rotating and the stationary domain. either i get a mesh which hasn`t periodic faces or i get a mesh with periodic faces but the surfacemesh on the interface hasn`t the needed shape (have a look at the following pdf- file: ftp://ftp.hta.fhz.ch/tmp/CFD/periodic.pdf ) can anybody help me to fix this problem or does anybody know a tutorial database where i can download some examples.

thanks in advance

ben

This is a common problem which may occur from time to time. You may just try different mesh parameters. If it does not help you may project the wrong positioned nodes to the correct curve in the mesheditor. After performing one smoothing step the adjacent node on the other periodic surface has moved to the correct position.

I would suggest instead of going with tetra, go for hexa. Hexa works fine in this kind of problem. I have simulated this kind of case using ICEM HEXA

Hi Helge, Hi cantaur_ks

@Helge: Thank you very much for your assistance!! i could solve my problem by following your instructions.

@centaur_ks: thanks for your advice but i dont want to create a structured mesh because of the very complex domain- geometry.

have a good day

Ben
