Hi I am beginner and solving simple second order Heat conduction equation using FTCS and CN method. When can I say, the solution is both stable and accurate, only stable ,and only accureate ? What is the relation between stability and accuracy ?

Thanks in advance

regards ravi

I don't think that there is a definition for accuracy. The important realtion is that (under some conditions): Stability + Consistency <=> Convergence. You should look those terms and their meaning up in a text book on numerical analysis for ODEs. Essentially it means that if your scheme is unstable, it is also divergent and dependent on what order of consistency you have, your order of convergence increases. Sort of ;-)
