moving cylinder in a cartesian grid
I am trying to code a moving cylinder in Euler's flow. I have a cartesian grid in the entire computational domain, and I would like to introduce a cylinder inside the flow and track its interface.
so, how do i make my grid aware of that there is a (solid-) point around? how do i know the points of intersection of the cylinder's profile, at any time, with my cartesian grid?
does anyone have any idea as to what the normal practice is, in this case? i have never tried to simulate a solid inside a flow. any implementation tips... any references, please?

p.s. i do not want to use level-set functions.
Have you looked at Overture? It is a library of functions for overset grids, so may have some of what you need.
