hydrostatic vs nonhydrostatic ocean models

Hi

I am currently studying the Caspian Sea circulation. I was interested to know wether there would be a difference between the results of hydrostatic models and non hydrostatic model. According to literature there isn't much difference. Has anyone had any experience in using non hydrostatic models? Would it be worth the while to examine the results and are the results more precise?

there can be strong difference,for example if what you are studing present fully three dimensional phenomena, like upwelling downweeling close to the coast, buoyancy effect etc.
