Solidworks, inside volume

Hello everyone ,i have a littel question, im working with Solidworks in a can combustor modeler,and i want to know if exist some tool to generate the inside volume of my model? because for modeling in cfd code its necessary the inside volume wich its where the fluids go and not the structure, so i have ready all the structure but i need the inside volumen.

anyone knows?

Hi,

I usually create a box that covers the whole flow domain of interest. Then, read in the solid part (I do not have SolidWorks on this laptop, but, I think it is "insert", then select part). Do a combine (but, select subtract). If your solid parts is not clean, then, you might get errors. But, most of the cases, you should be fine. So, try this using a simple model first.

I believe that, there is a software called, SpaceClaim, it can do invert of a part or an assembly. I have not used this feature myself yet.

If you need details, let me know. I can write a more detailed procedure.

hey phsieh2005 i have another question about solidworks(im new) and it is possible to do a "combine" in the assambly ? i have 3 solid bodies ,but i want to combine them to get just 1 solid bodie (for mesh situation).

when i get in the assambly i didnt see the combine option, how can i get this?

Hi,

No, you cannot do combine or subtract in assembly mode.

In assembly mode, save the assembly as part (save as, then save as type Part).

Create a box that will cover your flow domain. Then, insert part, insert Feature, select Combine, then select Subtract.
