When does the cfd code companies plan to setup proper support for windows NT users! made for NT users, handled by support engineers working on NT!

What is your experience in this matter?

All major CFD companies support windows to a greater or lesser degree. A few of the smaller players support only windows. Perhaps the less than enthusiatic response by the industry is a reflection that Windows is a somewhat less than ideal platform for commercial grade CFD work. Linux seems to be the hands down winner at the moment for running large clusters of the type required for large scale engineering problems. The CFD code companies did not make that happen. The user community voted with their dollars. I am not hard-core anti anything Microsoft. I do the majority of my work on a Windows based laptop. But it appears to me that Linux and Unix really make better engineering platforms, especially for high volume compute bound long running batch processes which characterize commercial CFD.

VECTIS and WAVE are developed and supported in a mixed environment of Windows and and various UNIX flavours (including Linux).

Hi Mr Lomil,

I have found 'memory related problems' with some CFD software, running under Windows NT (XP)... Each manufacturer will, no doubt, have his own solutions for these issues... Linux versions seemed to not have as much 'eye candy' but worked solidly... Linux is inherently more stable...

I have found a reasonably inexpensive CFD package at <www.softflo.com> called 'Flo++'...
