Best Grid Generation Freeware
Hallo!
I am studying mechanical engineering and in the next semester I have to write my bachelorīs thesis about grid generation. I should study two grid generation freeware programs. So I would ask what are the best programs in view of usability and results. THX mitho87 |
Hi,
I have used a couple of meshers: gmsh: www.geuz.org calculiX: www.calculix.de netgen: (do a search on sourceforge.net) snappyHexMesh: part of OpenFOAM. Is a cartisan mesh IA-mesh: https://mri.radiology.uiowa.edu//MIMX/login/login.php (hex mesher). If you happen to find any automatic hex mesher or automatic hybrid mesher, please post them here. Pei |
Hi Thor Michael. Allow me to add to Pei-Ying Hsieh's list. I'm not making any judgments about "best", but you'll have more candidates for your research.
Gmsh: http://www.geuz.org/gmsh/ GRUMMP: http://tetra.mech.ubc.ca/GRUMMP/ GTS: http://gts.sourceforge.net/ jCAE: http://jcae.sourceforge.net/ MegaCads: http://www.megacads.dlr.de/ NETGEN: http://www.hpfem.jku.at/netgen/ SALOME: http://www.salome-platform.org/ Triangle: http://www.salome-platform.org/ SolidMesh: http://www.simcenter.msstate.edu/sim.../contents.html TetGen: http://tetgen.berlios.de/index.html Discretizer: http://www.discretizer.org/ MeshLab: http://meshlab.sourceforge.net/ enGrid: http://www.ohloh.net/p/engrid This list by itself is incomplete and if you accounted for university codes and government codes you'd get even more. Of course, if you look at commercial codes the list would be enormous. I'd be really interested in the results of your research. Hopefully you'll post them here. Best regards. |
A quick comment on TetGen, SolidMesh and GRUMPP:
They are not open-source, but might be obtained for non-commercial use; SolidMesh seems to be restricted to US users. Regards, Oliver |
There is a general list at the following address
http://www-users.informatik.rwth-aac.../software.html It might be useful Good Luck |

To download Grummp annonymously http://tetra.mech.ubc.ca/GRUMMP/ Good luck |
A quote from the link you posted:
GRUMMP is available via anonymous ftp as ftp://tetra.mech.ubc.ca/pub/GRUMMP/GRUMMP.tar.gz. This is a symbolic link to the most recent version (currently 0.3.4). GRUMMP is available free for non-commercial use. See the online version of the license agreement for details. No, it is not open-source and must not be used for commercial applications; at least that is how I would understand the statement. -- Oliver |
