Best Grid Generation Freeware
 

Hallo!

I am studying mechanical engineering and in the next semester I have to write my bachelor´s thesis about grid generation.

I should study two grid generation freeware programs. So I would ask what are the best programs in view of usability and results.

I have used a couple of meshers:

gmsh: www.geuz.org
calculiX: www.calculix.de
netgen: (do a search on sourceforge.net)
snappyHexMesh: part of OpenFOAM. Is a cartisan mesh
IA-mesh: https://mri.radiology.uiowa.edu//MIMX/login/login.php (hex mesher).

If you happen to find any automatic hex mesher or automatic hybrid mesher, please post them here.

A quick comment on TetGen, SolidMesh and GRUMPP:

They are not open-source, but might be obtained for non-commercial use; SolidMesh seems to be restricted to US users.

No, it is not open-source and must not be used for commercial applications; at least that is how I would understand the statement.
