Hi, When we approximate the Scattering phase function by Polynomial Legendre series,as done for example in the reference of Kim M.Y.( analysis of radiative heating of a rocket plume base with the finite volume method ,inter. J. heat & mass transfer,40,1997 ) , we need of cores the expansion coefficients Cj to identify the phase function. The matter that I did not well understand, and this is the question, is how the asymmetry factors will be considered in the function and where? as mentioned in the case of F2,F3 and B2, B3 phase functions.

Ahmed,

In Kim's approach, the scattering phase function is modeled by Polynomial Legendre series, and the Cj's are the series coefficients. Whenever the phase function is needed (usually in the in-scattering term in the radiative transfer equation), substitute the series with its coefficients. As an example, see

Fiterman, A., Ben-Zvi, R., and Kribus, A., DOTS: Pseudo-Time-Stepping solution of the Discrete-Ordinate Equations. Numerical Heat Transfer B 25, 163-183, 1999.

I hope this clarifies the matter,

Rami
