Default K-e in a laminar flow - what happens

I was wondering. When doing a turbulence calculation using e.g. K-e or RSM, what happens in the regions of the domain where the flow is laminar?

Will the model impose some false turbulence, or???

Cheers, Christian

Yes. The turbulence's production is only driven by the velocity gradients. The destruction of turbulence is epsilon. So there is no reason for the turbulence to collapse in the "laminar" regions.

Sylvain's answer is satisfying, but I am interested in background material if you have some.
