Anyone done steam in CFDesign?
 

I am looking to model steam condensing in a tube in CFDesign. Has anyone done anything similar with this software?

I am doing cooling and heating in piping system using cfdesign. How you feel about cfdesign? Do you get good support from cfdesign? Why don't you ask cfdesign?

CFDesign is pretty good. I am having troubles getting the problem to converge.

CFDesign does well as long as you keep within its limitation. Your need to model steam now takes it out of its usefulness. To survive, CFDesign require to sell on volume and with a small group of technical support engineers and an even smaller group of developers working on the difficult part (solver) you are highly unlikely to make any progress on your particular problem anytime soon with CFDesign.

I recommend you now consider looking at the proven CFD solvers out there such as fluent, STAR-CD, and CFX. All these codes now have equivalent if not better full associativity with CAD that CFDesign claim they have, with the added bonus of an efficient, accurate solver. There is no advantage using CFDesign at this point, apart from cost, and that is questionable for what you really get in return!

I always find these forums to be a mixed blessing. Sometimes people try to help and sometimes they just try to sow distrust and doubt. In a prior posting by Kitamura the message goes entirely off track via his unhelpful and untrue comments. I have worked with CFdesign for over seven years and have visited their offices. They are an extremely talented group and are focused on providing a killer piece of CFD software. Over the years that I have worked with them – they have always delivered. If you have a problem with an existing feature – they will support you 24/7 with outstanding support. This is not B.S. but the truth.

Other CFD solvers are even more touchy (I know from experience…) – thus Kitamura's suggestion may be appropriate if you need to truly model two-phase flow or explosions but otherwise it is unhelpful.

Okay – what are some helpful suggestions? Contact CFdesign and see what they say – if they are unhelpful and you continue to have convergence issues then we all would love to hear about and that would be a piece of constructive information.
