dear all

The filter is used in LES with FDM, and the filter width is 2 delta_x(supposed 1D). Question is that if the bigger width is used, the results of the fluid field are more accuracy? it is that, how the filter width affect on the results of LES?

best regards.

Hi there,

Take a look at the following paper: ``On the use of discrete filters for large eddy simulation'',T. S. Lund, CTR Annual Research Briefs, Stanford, 1997.

Available online at: http://ctr-sgi1.stanford.edu/CTR/ResBriefs97/lund.ps.gz

Sincerely,

Frederic Felten.

A smaller filter width implies that you are resolving more of the turbulent scales and modeling fewer small scales.
