sir Iwould like to model a cooling tower model in ANSYS. plz help me in this regard. explain the procedure to carry the 3D ANSYS/FLOTRAN Analysis. thanking u.

Don't use flotran. It's rubbish. You should use one of the professional tools like fluent,cfx,star-cd.

I am not sure I fully understand your problem.
1. If it is just 3D Vs. 2D, then the easiest way is to create the fluid region geometry from a CAD package then use IGES import to Flotran. You can generate geometry inside ANSYS too, but it's much harder. B.C.'s in 3D are very similar. 2. If it is the physics of the problem (is it a solid and CFD coupled problem?), there is another place you can look which is ANSYS verification problem collection, see link http://www.oulu.fi/atkk/tkpalv/unix/..._V_VMTOC1.html The link online is ANSYS 6.1 and there may be more coupled-filed examples in later version of ANSYS (Rev.7 & 8) Good luck! |

The same exact concepts apply between a 2D and 3D analysis in FLOTRAN. In 2D you apply BCs to lines and in 3D it is to areas. Ensure you select the appropriate element type (FLUID142). The most important thing is to understand the problem you are trying to simulate. Always try to simplify it to it's simplest form, but make sure you are accounting for everything appropriately. (ie. should you account for condensation/evaporation?) If so, FLOTRAN does not account for this. Good luck! Derrek |
