CFDENGR is on a distinguished road
Hello,

I'm in the very early stages of creating a model to simulate the effects of an arc flash inside of a cabinet (essentially a high explosive that will produce a shock wave). Does anybody have any experience with similar work? I am concerned with applying realistic boundary conditions to the source. Are there any good sources available that have data that approximates the pressure or the amount of vaporized metal at the center of an arc flash? As far as modeling strategy, I am somewhat limited by computing power. What is a reasonable currant number to capture a shockwave? How about the best turbulence models to use for this type of high speed, compressible flow? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks.
