icem cfd input format
Hi everybody,
I need to generate a 3D mesh starting from points. The data format is as follow: X Y Z . . . . . . . . . Xn Yn Zn where x,y,z are the coordinates. How can I open this file in ICEMCFD????? How can I generate automatically the surface for the 3D data??? Hope you can help me, Joe |

is your geometry a cube or some simple shape ? if it is so then you can use directly icem cfd to create your geometry first. icem cfd has an option to create /modify geometry in MED itself.

Nope. It's a very conlex geometry (a wing with diferent section and twisting)

if its complex then, what you can do is, create the geom in Pro-E or something like that and export it as IGES file.After you have IGES file.
After getting IGES file either you can import IGES directly into ICEM ( there is an option in import IGES -> TIN) or there is a small program by ICEM called STEP2TIN which you can use to create TIN file from IGES file. you have to contact ICEM CFD to get that step2tin program and instruction on how to use it.OR if you have a direct interface in Pro-E then you can generate TIN file directly from Pro-E. |

generally for grid generation, that is the best way. You create your geom. in pro-e or something like that and import the iges file into the mesh generator. thats the most general way people take for complex geom. |

there is a module in ICEM CFD for reconstructing geometry based on a point cloud. This module is called mesh prototyper. Unfortunately a license for this module is required. If there is a similar functionality in ProE I do not know.

yes, in pro-e there is a way to import point cloud. you need to create PTS file for that containing x,y and z of the points and you create datum points by reading those points from PTS file, then you create datum curve joining those points and from those datum curves you generate the surface and then solid.

You can also generate a surface file from your point data with Tecplot through the triangulation feature. The Tecplot file can then by imported by ICEM-CFD.

If that works this is may be a solution for joegi because the mesh-protoyper normally is not licensed at universities. But you can ask your ICEM support.
