Dear Members,

Most of the commercial software for numerical analysis of fluid dynamic systems can handle only stationary ducts and systems, in best case taking into account the effect of gravity.

My question is whether anyone knows of any professional software that would be able to perform the numerical analysis of liquid flows in ducts and systems, when the walls, constraints, fluid and generally the whole system is not stationary but accelerating and rotating. Such program would be able to analyze for example the flow in a pipe that accelerates and rotates at the same time, or the flow in a centrifuge with some nozzles at the periphery, or the flow in a sliding vane pump/motor etc. If the program allows the relative movement of some solid parts, constraints relative to other solid parts (like in a sliding vane motor) then that would be the best. But if this is not allowed, but the relative rotating-accelerating frame of reference is allowed than that would already suffice for our purposes.

Looking forward to hear your advises, Regards, Zoltan Losonc

Wow!

You've laid out a challenge. At least I think so.

The closest thing I know to attack this problem is flow3d, by Flow Science, Inc. Flow Science is a sponsor of this website, cfd-online. You can take a look at flow3d's capability at

http://www.flow3d.com/.

But you'll probably need to talk to them about the details of your problem. It's a good time of year for that, since they're located in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Great Business Trip!

Good luck!

Most commercial codes should have a model for liquid-gas interfaces and some method (eg. via user subroutine add-ons) to represent time-varying body forces.
