Hello Jonathan and welcome to the world of CFD.
The answer to your question is "it depends." It depends on your budget for CFD software. You could go with OpenFOAM or any of several commercial products. It depends on your application. Are you doing external aero? Turbo? Two-phase, reacting, free surface flows? It depends on what you want to compute and how long you're willing to spend getting an answer. Sorry to have only questions, not answers.
