Military usage abunds in hypersonic flow. DSMC, Kinetics scheme, Boltzmann equation, supersonic combustion, turbulent mixing, flow transition, all are complicated academic topics where you can start.

Thanks versi. Do you think laminar-turbulence transition at hypersonic speeds a good topic for research?
