Hi
i am working on unstructured Cartesian grid on moving domain. i created a code for grid generation and i am looking for a package that can handle this type of grid (commercial or free). what is your recommendation? what about tecplot, paraview..?
an example of the mesh is (from a reference): http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/5602/46840800.jpg

Hei Hadian,

both should work. For Tecplot your should use the FE-Brick cell type and for Paraview the unstructured grid with the VTK_VOXEL cell type.

You can get the Tecplot file format reference here:
ftp://ftp.tecplot.com/pub/doc/tecplo...dataformat.pdf

and the Paraview reference here:
http://www.vtk.org/VTK/img/file-formats.pdf

If you plan on parallelizing your code with the domain decomposition method (i.e. MPI), Paraview offers great support for parallel data output. From Experience, Paraview seems to be faster and more stable than Tecplot - and it is for free.

Cheers
Hans
