Is C++ on linux better than Visual C++ for CFD?

The C++ progamming language is defined by an ISO standard document; writing to its specification means you should be able to easily port your code on whatever platform you choose.

I am not sure what visual C++ offers you on top of the standard; this may make it easier to do e.g. graphics or buttons on Microshit, but it is totally useless on all other platforms.

IMHO, the thing you get with Microshaft is a pretty good IDE. But you do have to pay for it.

<table width="50%" > <tr><td> For purposes of standard CFD code, where standard means that you simlply calculate something and output as defined datas it does not make difference if you are using gcc under linux or visual c++ under windows. You can even use gcc under windows if you like it.

MSVC++ gives nice usability of interface and debugger and that is the reason why I am using it for developming of my CFD software. </tr></td> </table>
