Popular Wind Turbine Airfoils?
 

Hi,

I'm undertaking some CFD work for college regarding wind turbine performance. I was hoping to model the common turbine models in my country but can't find any details on the airfoils used. I know they are probably a closely kept secret but was hoping maybe that this wasn't the case and that someone might know where to get them. I'm looking mainly for Vestas V52, Nordex N80 or GE 1.5 MW turbines. Anyone got any ideas?:D

Forget it, they are definitely kept secret and anyone giving them away will get sacked, sued, killed...^^

hi maybe you could write to some companies which produce this blades. thay have some simplified profiles for students who want to study their cases. ok

look at the nrel website they have some test data and blade dimensions and airfoils seem to remember using s809 at some point, hope that helps

:p The NREL does put out airfoil coordinates for the wind turbines. Particularly, I've read a CFD report the other day that mentioned the S809 airfoil, which seems to be fairly popular. You can get all coordinates from this page:

I'm looking at modeling the nrel phase vi experiment to benchmark my analysis, ensuring that I can accurately model a wind turbine. I got the required data and am currently constructing the geometry but am little confused with the information being given.

I believe thickness just refers to the thickest part of the blade? Twist axis is given as a percentage of the chord, eg. 20.95%.....is this the width or the length of the chord?

I have the same issue. check 'wind turbine airfoil catalog" Riso-R-1280(En). it was somehow useful for me. you can find it in Google so easily.
