I am having difficulty in generating a mesh using pre-BFC because I don't have a manual. What can I do?

Get rid of PreBFC, it is too old, Use GAMBIT.

(1). Have you tried to contact the Fluent headquarter? (2). The pre-BFC concept is simple and straightforward. It is especially useful when you have the final geometry and mesh pre-planned, that is you know exactly how to combine the points, curves into surfaces. I have used it extensively in the last three years, even though the support engineer kept saying that they are no longer supporting it. (3). Even with the manual, at some point when you need to fine tune the mesh, you still want to talk to the support to find out the exact way to use some of the options. (4). If you need editing capabilities, preBFC is not a good choice. If you don't know what you are doing , then the new code is not going to help you either. (5). Regardless of the code you use, you need to plan ahead before you start running the code. It will save you a lot of time and headache. ( Fluent should be able to run a copy of the manual for you even if it is no longer supported. After all, only rich and brave people are willing to get involved in CFD.)

(1). I will start looking into Gambit soon. (2). Our expert's opinion is "proceed with extreme caution". "bugs and system hung-up" was the main concern.(based on several months hands-on experience) (3). There was no system problem with preBFC in the last several years when I was using it. (4). It is not a good idea to crush the user's system from time to time when using this new code. Agree?

Dear Kevan,

If you are still hunting for a preBFC manual, please let me know and I'll try to find one here for you. Please send me your mailing address.

I would agree with the other posters that GAMBIT is much more powerful and easy to use compared to preBFC.

I would also say that the days of "bugs and system hang-ups" are well behind us now. The current GAMBIT release, 1.1, has made significant strides in speed, usability and robustness compared to the first releases more than a year ago.

Regards,

Eric Grald, Fluent Inc.
