frequency of vortex shedding

hey

can anybody tell me how can i calculate the frequency of vortex shedding... i am not using any software but have developed the code in FORTRAN... and i am analysing the flow over a cylinder.... i have all the results and code is working fine... just need to know how to calculate the vortex shedding as need to validate this ..

Thanksss

The frequency of vortex shedding is calculated by taking the Fast fourier transform of the Lift coefficient, which will directly give the value T and f=1/T

This is the method followed in most of the literature.

look up the strouhal number as well, this is a more useful non-dimensional measure of vortex shedding frequency

good luck

Hi,
At first we plot the graph “CL vs physical time”. The graph shows that CL varies periodically with respect to physical time. We can measure the periodic time (T) based on this graph.
Then, can we determine the frequency of vortex shedding (f) based on the periodic time (T): f = 1/T?
Best regards,
Dave
