parallel processing
 

i want to parallelaize 4 computers to solve a problem in fluent. i dont know how do i set them up.
in your opinion i set them up in workgroup or domain controler network?
do i need Windows server or not?
which version of fluent is good for this work?( 6.3 or 12 or 13)?
offcourse i set them up for two method ( workgroup or domain) but did not give good result because the host computer was recognized but the nodes were not.
please help me about these problems. basicaly how do i set them up? if you have any experiance in this field please help me.

i think you should setup a small cluster and usually Linux os is used.

because linux cost less overhead and is more stable.

to make a cluster:

install linux
use yp to let them share the names and passwords
use nfs to share the files
allow the head to communicate to the nodes with ssh or rsh without the need of giving the password
use openmpi to allow communication between cpus
use sun grid engine to manage the scheduling and the submission of the jobs across the cluster.

of course this is just a way of setting up a small cluster, there are many other softwares, filesistems, managing suites that can be used with profit.

You do not need to use linux OS or etc. I have done that before with Windows on a simple PC with 4 cores. I do not remember the details but just remember you should right click on the Fluent Icone, add some thing to its path and then when you run it, you should go to the file menu and choose the number of processors.

May be you can find the details on its help.

His original post said 4 computers, not 4 cores. I think he means seperate computers, not 1 box.
