g77 -ff90 .... compiles f90 code.

The -ff90 flag allows a very small number of f90 constructs to be recognised by g77. If you want to compile f90 code with a gnu compiler you will need to use g95 or "gnu fortran 95" (the project seems to have forked) when they are ready.

If you want to use Fortran 90/95 today on an Intel computer and are not developing commercial code I would echo dpshaka's suggestion of using the Intel compiler.
