Can anyone suggest a good editor for using FORTRAN in windows operating system.

Have tried to get xemacs http://www.xemacs.org/ but failed, any ideas then! The other point what is the best way to compile a fortran 90 program, am NEW in using it in a WINDOS operating system.

sell Textpad, an ASCII text editor that I've found very useful. It's not specific to Fortran, but has a nice file compare feature, the ability to edit by columns or by rows, and lots of other useful features.

The price is OK as well.

Try Crimson Editor. It is robust and recognize most of the programming languages.

You can take a look on DEV CPP as well. It is an open source environment originally dedicated to C but it now supports other languages.

It is best to compile on the command line line.

vim/gvim also does the syntax highlighting. you should be able to get an executable for windows.

Use emacs it works for windows. You need to just enable syntax higlighting to make it work for fortran environment.
