Default CFD Software Courses

Good Day All.

I'm starting post-grad in applied computer science in the fall and I want to steer my career toward CFD.

Problem is, I'm a cfd ultra-virgin and I need some help putting together the courses that would teach me the most about this discipline.

I'm not too worried about heat transfer; more about turbulence, incompressible flows, free surface effects, meshing...and I figure fluid mechanics would cover most of this.

What I don't know is where to begin, from a software perspective.

I have an undergrad degree in Comp Sci. And aside from courses in Numerical Analysis i'm kinda stuck.

Any courses you guys can suggest, engineering or comp sci, will be greatly, greatly appreciated.

thanks and it's good to be here.

I would walk over to the Mechanical (or maybe Aerospace) Engineering Dept and find a professor that was willing to talk to you. Meshing by the way is a field requiring an entirely different set of skills than standard fluid dynamics. Most CFD software companies have "solver" experts and "meshing" experts and they are rarely the same people.

In my opinion the best course was offered by Dr. Suhas Patankar. It is an ASME short course. I think you will learn a lot from his class and his experience. Good luck.
