Need Help with a Phone Interview
 

Hello,

I am recent MS graduate in CFD looking for my first job... Ive been Job hunting for a few months now and finally... i Have my first shot at a job. I have a phone interview in a couple of days with a CFD solutions providing company.

I really like the job and think it suits me well, but this being my first interview, I do not know what to expect. I have had an initial screening interview over the phone and this is now my main interview with the dept Manager.

I do not know how much of the interview will be technical, if any. I have only course related CFD experience.

All i want is some insight into what to expect from the interview.

Each company has their own interview style so it's difficult to predict how technical yours will be, especially since it's over the phone (in other words, sometimes the in-person interviews are more technical). Be prepared to describe your CFD experience so that the interviewers can understand and be convinced that you know what you're talking about. Compare and contrast questions are popular. If you've used the company's software, be certain you know what you're talking about if you describe it's use. Regardless, best of luck during the interview.

When you say Compare and Contrast kinda questions. Do u mean between CFD softwares or CFD Application...

Compare and contrast questions could cover most anything. If you say you've used CFD software A and CFD software B you might be asked which you prefer and why or if you had to start a new analysis which would you use and why. Or you might be asked about the pros and cons of discrete versus analytic geometry definitions when it comes to meshing. Stuff like that.

In my experiences, the phone interview is a 'feel you out' interview. It will be a mix of technical questions, you ambitions, what kind of job you are looking for, etc etc. I would definitely research the company and ask all kinds of questions to show some interest. Then, if they like you they will bring you in to see if you fit with the other workers there...good luck

Besides technical questions you will definitely be asked about the following:

1. Ability to work in a team. If you have an experience of a team work, you have to show it.

2. Ability to take over major responsibilities.

3. Leadership ambitions.
