Default microchannel two phase flow with heat transfer

Hello,

I am new to CFD software. Which software (Fluent, CFX or Openfoam) would you recommend for simulation of two phase flow (water and steam) with heat transfer in microchannel? I am thinking of using the VOF or the Level-set approach.

Instead of software, do you think coding might be better? Any other approach that is worth considering?

At the micro level, capillary effects are much higher compared to convection scales. Use of VOF approach is preferred to get the bubble dynamics (injected into the channels) such as coagulation, stretching, deformation etc.

To simulate microchannel flows, your VOF scheme should be robust and very stable. Contact angle dynamics should also be included - to account for hydrophilic and phobic surfaces.

Flow3D, StarCCM, ANSYS - all can do this. No problem.

Writing your own code - well, why not use openFoam (as is) with its inbuilt VOF solver.

Read a lot of literature on the settings and BCs to impose.
